Our Approach
History That Lives and Breathes
Education is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that understanding the past is essential to shaping a just and informed future - and that the history of Black communities in the SC Lowcountry belongs to everyone.
From school programs and guided heritage tours to community workshops and a growing archive of oral histories, our educational offerings are designed to be accessible, engaging, and deeply rooted in the real stories of this land and its people.

Our Programs
Youth Education Programs
Curriculum-aligned programs designed for K–12 students that bring the history of Black communities in the Lowcountry into the classroom. We partner with local schools to deliver engaging lessons, presentations, and hands-on activities that connect students to their heritage.

Heritage Trail Tours
Guided tours of historic sites across the SC Lowcountry that tell the stories of Black communities, freedom fighters, and cultural traditions. Our knowledgeable guides bring each location to life with firsthand accounts, oral histories, and archival materials.

Community Workshops
Interactive workshops open to community members of all ages. Topics range from Gullah Geechee language and traditions to genealogy research, historical preservation, and the ongoing legacy of Black leadership in the Lowcountry.
